Sliding egg sinkers are very useful for fishing live bait, either with a classic flylined finbait or Carolina rig for surf/inshore fishing. For fishing live sardines make sure to thumb the spool every few seconds instead of going full freespool otherwise you'll get wrapped up in everyone elses line.
